up! magazine – RedPoint Media Group

Location: Calgary, Alberta

Salary: A monthly $1,525 stipend

Position Description

If you are interested in contributing to up! magazine (WestJet’s in-flight magazine that reaches 1.4 million flyers a month), then we are interested in you. We are an eager bunch looking for top-notch, even hungry, writers, who want to join a demanding team that loves compelling stories about travelling the world – or, at least, WestJet’s world.  We’re looking for a proven writer and tenacious fact-checker interested in delivering engaging travel content to various multi-media platforms.

In this role, you will write, research, fact-check and manage updates to print and online projects, while ensuring the accuracy and quality that up! magazine is known for. You will also be responsible for photo research and archiving. And you’ll likely get to pack your bags and take to the skies at some point during your work term.

Other responsibilities include various administrative tasks, including sourcing photography, repurposing content and interviewing all types of people.

Qualifications

A successful candidate will have a post-secondary education in journalism, communications or a related field. Previous experience in fact-checking is vital. You write, research and proofread effectively, have great communication skills and are dedicated to finding answers and solutions on deadline. Your skill set includes fluency in Microsoft Office, online content management systems and working in an Apple environment. Conversational knowledge of French and/or Spanish is a great asset and highly valued.
