Gear review: USB heating gloves

Great in theory

Brando Workshop’s USB Heating Gloves look like everyday wooly mittens, except for the cords sprouting out of them. Each glove has a two-level heating control and attaches to your computer individually. I slipped on a pair of G-Gloves and while the mitts got warm fast, the downsides of wearing these while actually trying to use a computer were immediately evident. The gloves take up two USB ports, so there’s not a lot of space for other devices, resulting in a high tangle factor. And wearing the style with fingers exposed so you can type translates into warm palms but cold fingers. Brando boasts you can wear the gloves without the USB cable (which is detachable), but unfortunately, the white cord connecting to the USB doesn’t come off. These gloves are a great idea in theory, but not quite there yet in practice. (Various colours; US$22)
