November in New Orleans

In honour of WestJet's brand-new route to beloved New Orleans, up! presents a few locally loved fall events to get you pumped.

On October 31 at 7:20 p.m., “trick or treat” will be answered with the mighty howl of “Who Dat?” Defending NFL champs, the New Orleans Saints, play the perennially strong Pittsburgh Steelers at the Superdome.

Tickets won’t be cheap, but it’s the Saints on Halloween at the Superdome, which was built on an ancient graveyard and is believed to be so cursed that voodoo priestesses, Catholic nuns and astrologers have all taken a crack at dispelling the bad luck. The season is completely sold out, but hunt for tickets at stubhub.com.

Music

Halloween weekend also welcomes the Voodoo Experience, which bridges big-name acts like Ozzy Osbourne and MGMT with local icons ranging from Trombone Shorty to Rebirth and some of the new oddball institutions like The New Orleans Bingo! Show.

An all-access weekend pass is US$150.

Theatre

The Fringe Theater Festival, which runs November 17 to 21, celebrates innovative, wild and fun theatre. Many of the shows are presented in esoteric settings, which become integral to the work.

Art

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art hosts two intriguing exhibitions into next month: One Block: A New Orleans Neighborhood Rebuilds, along with Walker Evans Photographs: From the Collection of Jessica Lange. Yes, that Jessica Lange.
