Feel at home in an affordable, loft-like Nuvo Hotel suite near many amenities

Google "new Calgary hotel” and you get just a handful of unrelated results. Given the river of business travel that flows through the city, it’s a curious deficiency.

Enter the six-month-old Nuvo Hotel Suites, an unorthodox property within walking distance to downtown’s office towers and the city’s concentrated nightlife strip along 17th Avenue. The loft-like suites with full kitchens, private laundry and high-end appliances should help you overlook the lack of a lobby (you call ahead to ensure someone checks you in and feel bad if you arrive after hours).

The converted apartment building has 32 suites on four floors, with some impressive skyline views from the top floors facing the street. Creative, modern furniture adds to the high-end feel of the rooms, and nice touches like free Wi-Fi, long distance calls in North America and 42-inch flat screens with DVD players make the Nuvo feel like a home away from home… especially with the Safeway grocery store across the street.

Room rates start at $169.
