Alpacas of Newfoundland

The petite petting zoo on the peninsula

These alpacas and llamas may have the best view of any of their ilk from their red-roofed barn perched along the coast of the Port au Port Peninsula with an Atlantic breeze to ruffle their sought after fleece.

Open for 11 years, Alpacas of Newfoundland invites visitors to feed the exotic creatures and get photos taken with them. All the animals are named after local places except for Duncan. He was named by Canada’s Governor General Michaëlle Jean during a visit to the region after her honour’s assistant.

Once you’ve petted to your heart's desire, head next door to the well-stocked gift shop for anything from a sturdy pair of Canadian made alpaca socks to a softer than soft alpaca rug. Even pillow covers made from the hollow fibred fleece are available and sure to bring on sweet dreams.

Take note of the bulletin board near the door with spots of interest in the area so you don’t miss anything during your drive along the peninsula.

Open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from May to September. Call during the off-season.
