Just north of the city centre, tucked unassumingly along a quiet street, sits a two-story red brick home. An open living and dining room concept on the first floor give guests a spacious place to relax and eat before they head upstairs for a restful evening. In business for almost a decade, the Ambleside has managed to survive while other nearby B&B’s have failed, a level of success that owner and operator Peggy Moffat attributes to her many years in the hospitality business. She even teaches a workshop on how to start up a B&B at local Fanshawe College.
Ambleside’s reasonable rates include a home cooked breakfast (with provisions made for special menu customers, such as vegan travelers), and a knockout extra is the complimentary shuttle service from the airport, bus station or train station—no small gesture as a taxi ride can be more than $20. As well, you would be hard pressed to find any dust in the spotless inn, and customers have written to ask her what her secret is to the shining chrome in the bathroom.
Thinking of eloping? Check out the elopement package—justice of the peace included. Happily ever after? That’s up to you!
Room rates start at $80.
