Angelica’s Bistro

A cool mix of antiques, performances and bistro fare

AS HYBRIDS GO, it doesn’t get more romantic than this one. Named for the better half of the husband-and-wife team who’ve created it, this cozy enclave is one part antique emporium, one part eclectic performance space and one part casual, gourmet kitchen.

Old musical instruments, gorgeous house wares and furniture, vintage dresses and accessories, and a plethora of other treasures fill both storeys of an expansive dining room, and spill into an enchanting garden patio out back that boasts sculptural works, gurgling fountains and ornately framed mirrors that make the space seem even larger. A simple stage near the front of the building hosts a wide array of performers on a near-nightly basis, shuffling through jazz, swing, acoustic blues, country, R&B, pop, rock, even improvised drumming.

In addition to these sensory treats, the real reason you’ll want to linger here is for the excellent lunch and dinner menus, packed with fresh salads, crepes, sandwiches, pastas and grilled entrées. Angelica’s also serves a range of micro-brewed beers on tap (from Belgium, Germany and the U.S. West Coast), and features a variety of irresistible alcoholic floats for desserts—think tequila with mango sorbet. For true booze enthusiasts, there’s also a daily happy hour from 4 to 5:30 p.m., and an ongoing beer club that offers member discounts, workshops, private events and some marginal influence over fridge inventory.

Angelica’s is open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, and also serves up an all-you-can-eat buffet on Sunday, including unlimited mimosas (US$22.50).
