Cape Anguille Lighthouse Inn

Six rooms with a view

With the ocean in front of you, the hills at your back, birds in the air above, and whales in the water below, this inn is surrounded by the true and rugged beauty of Newfoundland.

Two buildings and a lighthouse, painted red and white, sit near the Atlantic — a scenic three-hour drive from Deer Lake. Choose from rooms in the upstairs of the main house where the lighthouse keepers used to live or stay in the newer building next door. The rooms are serene without a television or telephone yet come with their own en suite bathrooms.

With only six rooms in total, reservations are recommended. At night gather around the wood stove in the main house’s front room and trade stories of whale and bird sightings. And in the morning plan out sightseeing tours or discuss tee times at the nearby St. Andrews na Creige Golf Club over the complimentary continental breakfast.

Although you’re unlikely to hear a phone ring, you may get the landlubber loved and locally loathed wail of a foghorn in the middle of the night. The lighthouse is fully functional but the keeper logs off at 4 p.m. and electronic controls take over and when the fog rolls in the horn goes off!

The Inn is open from May to September and rooms with an ocean view go for $110 and those with a hill view for $100.
