THE DUPLEX AT the corner of Duckworth and Cathedral Streets, just below the Anglican Cathedral in St. John’s, has a long history of what Newfoundlanders often call “haunts.”
Guests staying in the Victoria Station Inn were too unnerved to sleep, and restaurant staff reported a feeling of dread, especially while working alone in the buildings. St. John’s ghost buff Dale Jarvis writes about residents of one apartment in the building seeing a glass fruit bowl split in half, and about a coffee table flipping upside down despite being weighed down by an entire set of encyclopedias.
