DISNEY’S ALL-STAR Sports Resort is one of the most budget-friendly of the Disney hotels. But saving doesn’t mean scrimping on the experience, and the property offers larger-than-life amenities for families with kids. Peruse the lobby’s museum of sports history while you’re checking in, for example, as signed photos of greats from Wayne Gretzky to Billie Jean King line the walls. You’ll find the resort brightly painted, with whimsical, super-sized tributes to athletics.
The rooms are basic but comfortable, and free bus transportation to the theme parks means less stress for everyone. Thirty-eight foot-tall surfboards surround one building, while megaphone light fixtures adorn the guest rooms. Elsewhere, courtyards give way to ball courts where the family can shoot hoops each morning.
Three pools offer a refreshing respite from the afternoon heat. In the evening, quench everyone’s thirst at the food court’s “beverage island.” But be warned: the all-you-can drink Coke products, hot chocolate and fruit Slushees don’t exactly wind down the kiddies for a good night’s sleep.
Rates start at US$82 per night.
