Experience an amazing wetland habitat without leaving the city

YOU’D THINK THAT pristine wilderness, bison sightings and intimate exchanges with birdlife—capped by a sunset eruption of migrating Canada geese—would be at least an hour’s drive from Portage and Main. But just 20 minutes away, the Fort Whyte Centre’s 600 acres include prairie meadows, sparkling lakes, forests and wetlands, most often playing host to a gaggle of school kids.
