Four Seasons Resort is equal parts golf and adventure

For serious golfers only

When it comes to naming strategies, not much beats “The Tail of the Whale” at Four Seasons’ Pacifico Golf Course. Hole 3B is a natural island par 3 with continent- and tail-shaped islets separated by 199 yards of Pacific blue. Just to add to the drama, players are taken across to the hole in an amphibious cart, during high tide. From the eight holes that flank the ocean to the well-bunkered and doglegged interior tests, this is serious golf, not clown-and-windmill stuff. The newer Jack Nicklaus-designed Bahia Course is a challenger with heaving greens, stunning vistas and its own surfside visit. On-site, golf-alternative activities include the Nawua, a gourmet boutique, showcasing the work of local artists and educational sessions on subjects ranging from tequila and architecture to the secrets of making a killer mole. Book a palapa for a day at the beach, chill by the infinity pool or float down the resort’s lazy river. In Punta Mita, 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta, tour the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, shop, head over to the Marina Vallarta and book a snorkel excursion or simply hang out.
