
The first time you see the wide stretch of golden sand nestled on the shores of Lake Huron, you’d be forgiven for closing your eyes and pretending you’re in the Seychelles. But the tranquility can be fleeting; during summer months, the village of 1,000 boils over into a Daytona Beach-like hot spot, complete with an invasion of 40,000 camping families and collegiate revelers. Indeed, descending on “Florida North” for May Two-Four or Canada Day celebrations is almost a right of passage for southern Ontario party lovers. Still, Grand Bend’s natural beauty trumps its boozy summer transformation, as its inclusion on National Geographic’s list of Top 10 sunsets in North America will attest.
