Gros Morne Resort

One fine view deserves another

Measuring rooms by cartwheel count would have this place close to a 10. It helps if you are staying in the spacious and luxurious Honeymoon Suite with a two-person Jacuzzi, private wet bar and fireplace. However with more than half of the 20 rooms having knockout views of Gros Morne National Park’s Long Range Mountains and private balconies, you’re bound to come away smiling once you’ve picked up your jaw. Yes, the view is that good.

Gros Morne Resort has been in business for just over a decade and is ideally situated on the highway along Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula with long distance views of the ocean on one side and views of mountains and St. Paul's Inlet on the other — a blissful sandwich of vistas.

On the second floor, a new fine dining restaurant has opened with a large patio and an international wine list. Try to resist sliding along the waxed wooden floor in front of the bar. But if you’d rather grab some toutons, a Newfoundland favourite consisting of fried bread dough with molasses, head down to the first floor restaurant. There is also a massive lounge just off of the lobby with a dance floor and a large and welcoming wrap-around bar that invites you to saddle-up and drink.

More of an RV traveller? The resort has camping sites on an island that juts out into the inlet. Golf your thing? An 18-hole, par 72 course is steps away from the resort. Oh yes, and did I mention the view?

Rooms start at $119 with 10 per cent off during the low season.
