The fact it took Canada’s boutique hotel pioneer almost 25 years to open in Calgary speaks volumes about the city’s curious aversion to low-key boutique luxury.
But when the Montréal-based, family-owned Germain Group decided to finally head west, it went all in with this combined hotel, office tower and 40-unit residence across from the Calgary Tower.
The 143 rooms filled with natural wood and glass of Hotel Le Germain lost nothing in its trip out west from long-established bases in Montréal, Quebec City and Toronto: the individual, undivided attention from staff, the liberal use of volcanic stone and granite—even the sublime (and signature) scent: part green tea, part citrus.
The rooms hit the sweet spot between spa-like and designer, making them very difficult to leave. And that’s even before you try the rain shower. Seriously. The enormous showerhead is even better than the modern riffs on hearty Canadian staples on the street-front (and locally loved) Charcut Roast House and its beer cellar.
At $200 per night, the Weekend Special includes a Superior Room, valet parking, brekkie for two and late checkout. The offer doesn’t apply during the Calgary Stampede.
Room rates start at $279.
