Joe's Stone Crab

Hand-held meals are the ultimate travel food: you can stay mobile, eat with locals and keep your other hand on your iPhone, daypack or toddler. So roll up your sleeves and dig into stone crab from Joe's Stone Crab in Miami, because...

Your trip is too short to wait for a table!

The legendary seafood kitchen of Joe's Stone Crab pegs itself as the first place to ever serve Florida stone crab (starting in the 1920s), an abundant delicacy in season from mid October to mid May. Their claws are packed with sweet meat and are the only edible part of this unique crustacean.

Order the stone crab (from US$19) boiled and cracked with a side of hash browns and coleslaw, and get to work. Much like eating lobster claws, it takes a bit of wrangling to get to the goods, but this succulent seafood is worth the effort. This popular destination can get very busy, so if you’re in a hurry try the takeout and head for the beach.
