Learn to ski with Ellen Mathiesen-Guay

Learning to ski as an adult can be an intimidating experience.

But, oddly, not with Ellen Mathiesen-Guay, mother of one of the fastest skiers on Earth—Erik Guay. For 21 years, Mont Tremblant’s No. 1 ski matriarch has taught skiing alongside her husband, Conrad, who is now a ski instructor for the Canadian development team. Today, anyone can request a lesson from Mathiesen-Guay, a Level 3 ski instructor, who knows the techniques of some of the planet’s best skiers. And don’t feel pressured to ski at nutty speeds or reveal your fantasy of a podium finish. Many of her students are ecstatic if they learn to link a few turns on a bunny slope. Mathiesen-Guay’s secret to coaching? The ability to quickly assess a person’s skill and then deliver easy-to-follow technical tips. Everyone always says mother knows best—at Mont Tremblant, that means Mathiesen-Guay.
