Don't be puzzled by the name. These days, the only gambling here is the occasional wager on a game of billiards. Arizona’s oldest continuing pool hall serves up cheap, greasy food and one heck of an experience. Pretty much every inch of the cavernous joint is filled with billiards memorabilia, posters and other bric-a-brac, some of it even hanging from the 12-foot-high ceilings.
If you’re lucky, co-owner Billy Lutes will be tickling the ivories while you chow down. Hugely popular with locals, snowbirds and tourists, expect a wait during prime lunch hours.
DON’T MISS: The ‘Lutes Especial’—or ‘Special,’ depending on your mother tongue—which consists of a sliced hotdog on top of a cheeseburger, smothered in Lutes’ own hot sauce (US$5.29).
