Mayan Ruins: Ek' Balam
A look at Ek' Balam, a site of the Mayan Civilization dating back to 100 B.C.
One of the most recently excavated Mayan sites, this small centre boasts a network of ancient roads connecting other Maya settlements.
With Pre-Classic origins dating to 100 BC, Ek' Balam features the 100-ft. El Torre (“The Tower”) pyramid, which visitors can climb, as well as buildings built over much older structures, their construction believed to synch with the 52-year cycle called the Calendar Round.
Open seven days a week; 27 kms north of Valladolid.
