Montreal's iBurger perfect for the whole family

If you find yourself in Montreal for less than 48 hours and your mission is a family dinner, make a beeline to iBurger.

Just be forewarned: that little lowercase letter will likely command an instant must-eat-here-or-I’ll-die hunger in most tribes populated by teens. Gimmicky? Uh huh. Did we all love it? Yep. Did we feel comfortable busting out our iPhones? You betcha.

Sure, iBurger is using the tech angle to distinguish itself from umpteen other burger joints, but the massive photos of juicy burgers and the option of rearranging toppings at the tap of a tabletop touch-screen, works. What didn’t, ironically, was the technology. It didn’t like our touch much, so a server rescued us with pad and paper, explaining that the “bun” on the sushi burger was actually two thin sticky rice cakes. Coddling a mess of salmon tartare and a mango-avocado salsa, this is their No. 1 seller at $20. The Gourmet, described as a “gastronomical earthquake on a Viennese bun,” is actually a massive hunk of Kobe beef smothered in a rich duck fois gras with caramelized onions, lettuce and organic tomatoes, topped off with Maitre Jules cheese. There’s also the Trio Burger, the Angus Beef Burger, the organic quinoa veggie burger and starters galore. But take note: Despite its proximity to McGill University, iBurger is not one for the campus crowd. These pricey (albeit divinely innovative and hearty) patties will set you back anywhere from $13.50 to $27—but make a perfect family treat. (1237 Metcalfe St.; 514-903-5799)
