Ocean Club Resorts

A review of Ocean Club Resorts, two condominium-style properties in Providenciales featuring spacious accommodations, friendly staff and a stunning beach

Some might find it odd to compare a hotel to an item of clothing. But—normalcy be damned—I consider Ocean Club West Resort in the same category as my cherished white cotton t-shirt. And why not? The Turks and Caicos resort is classic, unfussy and, best of all, comfortable.

Two-for-One Resort

As with most properties in Providenciales, Ocean Club West is condo-hotel complex, meaning each suite is privately owned. Ocean Club Resorts is actually comprised of two all-suite properties; the sister property, Ocean Club, is located just one mile east of Ocean Club West.

A “Stay at One, Play at Both” policy is trumpeted, so, thanks to reciprocal charging, guests staying at Ocean Club West can enjoy all of the services and amenities of its sister resort, Ocean Club. Even more handily, a free shuttle runs between the two resorts to take guests back and forth between the two.

Cool Amenities

Good thing this "play at both" policy exists, because there is plenty offered at both resorts, including treatments at the onsite Spa Tropique, sailing, snorkelling, fishing and parasailing. Most impressive to me were the many complimentary amenities on deck:

—Bicycles

—Tennis rackets, balls and court access

—Wi-Fi

—DVD and VHS library

Seaside Cafe, Ocean Club West's sole restaurant, boasts al fresco dining by the pool with standard Caribbean fare at reasonable prices, while the eastern Ocean Club has two dining options: Opus Grille and Cabana Bar.

Grace Bay Beach

The saying goes in the Ocean Club world that the most popular activity is to do nothing at all. And your best bet for tackling such activity is the superb stretch of beach on which Ocean Club West (and its sister resort) sits.

Providenciales' Grace Bay Beach is perhaps the most stunning beach I've ever set sandaled-foot on. Talcum-like white sand goes for miles, and the gentle waves of the azure water lap the shore. Pick from the ample loungers that dot Ocean Club West's beach acreage, then plunk yourself under a cheerful peachy-pink umbrella and blissfully do as the saying goes—nothing.

Caribbean Home Away From Home

Tearing myself away from the exquisite beach was a struggle, but returning to my comfy, spacious accommodations softened the blow. Because each of Ocean Club West's 86 suites is privately owned, decor and touches differ from suite to suite, but certain amenities are standard across the board.

Kitchens (or kitchenettes, in some cases) are fully stocked, right down to wine glasses and paper towel, while most suites feature a washer/dryer. My favourite feature? The massive screened-in balconies that let the cool island breeze waft through the suite.

There are undoubtedly newer hotels on the Grace Bay strip, but with lodging this comfortable and such friendly, helpful staff, newer definitely doesn't necessarily translate to better. Budget-savvy travellers take note: just like with my cherished white t-shirt, this place is a perfect fit.

Ocean Club West Resort suites start at $260.

LOVE the article! I think that the t-shirt analogy was perfect. There is truly nothing better in life than a gorgeous beach with comfy accomodations...as well as a perfect fitting white t-shirt!
