Plastic Playground

Can’t imagine what 50 million loose Lego bricks look like? Visit the new Legoland Florida and you’ll see what that many bricks combined makes.

Opening October 15, this is the fifth Legoland in the world (there are three in Europe and one in California). It is located in Winter Haven, about an hour drive from Orlando and Tampa, and transforms the former Cypress Gardens Park into a plastic wonderland. As the largest Legoland yet, this park is spread across 150 acres and has 10 different themed zones (including the toddler-friendly Duplo Village, Pirates’ Cove and the park’s signature attraction, Miniland USA), 50 rides and more shows and attractions. The park also pays homage to the surrounding environment by restoring the botanical gardens left by its predecessor. Amidst the native and exotic flora, a huge banyan tree still stands, 72 years after it was planted. (Admission for seniors and kids aged 3 to 12 is US$55, adults US$65)
