The adults-only, all-inclusive, five-star Royal Hotel in Cancun boasts the area's only beachfront swim-up suites

Cancun’s Hotel Zone is clustered with seaside lodgings bearing regal titles inspired by the sandbar’s obscure ancient Maya fishing port, El Rey (“The King”). But it’s the Royal in Cancun—the flagship in Real Resorts’ fleet of luxury properties, as well as its newest and grandest—that reigns supreme.

The adults-only, all-inclusive, five-star resort and convention centre recently expanded to 288 suites, all of them boasting spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea and a choice parcel of a white-sand beach. The resort also features the area’s only beachfront swim-up suites and ocean-view full-service spa.

Sweet Amenities

Integrated into the turquoise tranquility is an epic infinity pool surrounded by canopied shade beds, chaise lounge chairs and private cabanas. Overlooking it all is a gazebo frequented by wedding parties fresh from nuptials at a new glass-enclosed oceanfront chapel.

Guests can play golf, work out and hit the rooftop tennis court, but most stay poolside, lolling on ergonomic foam mattresses or mooring at the swim-up bar. In the thick of this playground is an alfresco restaurant, where seductively plated à la carte dishes rival the epicurean works of art at the hotel’s five other eateries.

The Royal could milk its imperial motif, but tacky pageantry is banished in favour of classic, contemporary refinement and appreciation for its crown jewel—the sea.

Room to Book

At almost half the price of the swim-up suites, the upper-level Royal Junior Ocean View (RJO) suites are similarly decadent and boast magnificent views. These 653-sq.-ft. rooms also contain a terrace, double Jacuzzi and expansive bathroom.

Room rates start at US$474.
