Stables Ranch Grille

Mosey on in and enjoy a delicious Southwestern-style meal and rich, authentic ambiance

This relaxed fine dining joint comes by its name honestly: it’s the site of the original Otero Ranch’s stable (now the Tubac Golf Resort & Spa), dating back to 1789. Evidence of the building’s beautiful restoration is everywhere, from the hand-hewn wood beams overhead to the stone floors below. It’s a perfect union of Spanish Colonial style and Southwest charm, thanks to heavy, dark wood tables, cowboy paraphernalia and rich, warm tones.

An ambiance this hearty deserves equally impressive cuisine, and the fresh, local menu doesn’t disappoint. Try the delicious Sonoran Cowboy plate ($22), a grilled chili-lime pork chop with mashed ranchero beans, escabèche slaw and ancho chili-braised napolitos (an edible pad of the prickly pear cactus). Entrees range from US$20 to US$35.

DON’T MISS: A lip-smacking, authentic margarita on the restaurant’s cool placita (patio), with a clear view of the resort’s picturesque grounds. The nearby wood-burning fireplace will ease any evening desert chill.
