Toronto has the Royal Alexander Theatre and now Calgary has, appropriately, “The Royal Alex of the West.” After nearly 50 years, the nearly century-old Grand Theatre reopened in 2006 to live theatre under the auspices of Calgary’s Theatre Junction, housing Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, Dancers’ Studio West, GroundWorks Integrated Arts Collective, among others. Throw in a boutique restaurant that doubles as a lobby and an after-hours arts and media lounge, and all of a sudden downtown Calgary is a destination after quittin’ time.
Based in Toronto, Tom Gierasimczuk's work has appeared in a variety of publications, including the Globe and Mail, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer and OutPost magazine.
