Tobiano Golf

Great Canadian Value Golf Guide: this ‘Best New Course’-winner tracing the striking geography around Lake Kamloops is a blast

Few new golf courses in Canada have been as talked about as much as Tobiano Golf, a Tom McBroom design just outside of Kamloops and just one of several world-class facilities that have sprouted up in the B.C. interior in recent years. Tobiano was one of the first out of the gate, however, and has captivated players and critics since it opened last year.

Several awards in 2008 for “Best New Course” include those presented by Golf Digest and Score Golf magazine. Tobiano’s 18 measures an impressive 7,328 yards from the back tees (the 585-yard 8th hole is the longest) and offers gorgeous views of some of Canada’s most striking geography. The clay dunes, hoodoos and bluffs over Lake Kamloops make for some spectacular vistas, but try not to lose your focus—Tobiano rewards only the most accurate of shots.

Green fees vary from $90 to $130, depending on the season and how far in advance you book.

Après Golf

For Lee Morris, CEO of Tourism Kamloops, Storms Restaurant (250-372-1522) is one of the city’s can’t-miss destinations. Enjoy phyllo pastry stuffed with chicken or Caribbean lobster on the outdoor deck overlooking the scenic Thompson River.
