White Stallion Guest Ranch

Enjoy down-home hospitality, horse rides and tranquil ranch life

It seems only fitting that a family named True operates this friendly, authentic retreat. Owned by the families of brothers Mike and Russell since 1965, this sprawling property is an oasis in a desert of bland, ordinary vacations.

Set on 3,000 acres flanked by rugged mountains, White Stallion Guest Ranch is a mere 163 kms from Phoenix, but feels like a world away. The prime activity on these wide-open spaces is riding, with three or more types on offer daily including slow rides, fast rides, breakfast rides and team penning. City slickers and other newbies to equestrian pursuits can rest easy: White Stallion’s top-notch wranglers and ranch hands are friendly, patient and helpful.

But if hopping atop a noble steed isn’t your thing, not to worry. The property is jam-packed with other options, including tennis, basketball, swimming, hiking and biking.

The confines of the property themselves are fairly plain, with no phone or television (though free WiFi is available). But when ranch life is at your doorstep, does your room really matter?

What does matter is the treatment you’ll get the moment you set foot here. There’s a friendly, welcoming atmosphere that you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. Guests are jovial and get to know each other quickly, while ranch staff will be calling you by your first name right off the hop.

Perhaps it’s no surprise then that so many of White Stallion’s guests are repeats, year after year, from all over North America and other spots around the world. Given that fact, a stay at White Stallion should be booked well in advance.

Rooms range from US$160 to US$276 per night.
