Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park
Get a grip on the same iron bars that once held the Wild West’s most notorious criminals
It would be a crime to not stop at the Territorial Prison State Historic Park while visiting or passing through Yuma. Explore the remains of the jail that housed more than 3,000 Wild West prisoners between 1876 and 1909. After touring original cellblocks and other parts of the prison grounds, check out the 3,600-sq.-ft. museum, which has interesting exhibits on the prison’s history, staff and convicts.
DON’T MISS: The ‘Dark Cell’: an iron cage in a tiny windowless cell that held rule-breaking prisoners for days.
