Family-Friendly Alberta Trip

Ever wondered what type of vacation to take with the 10- to 13-year-old kids? Here is a short trip that doesn't involve a lot of driving that the whole family will enjoy.

Day One in Calgary

Fly from your home to Calgary on WestJet, rent a car and take in a day at the Calgary Stampede (tip - use the light rail to get to the Stampede!)

Day Two in Banff

Sleep overnight in Calgary and drive to Banff in the morning.

Enjoy the tram ride up the mountain and embark on a horseback riding adventure in the afternoon. Enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants on the main street in Banff. Spend a night in Banff and wake up to the most beautiful scenery in the west.

Days Three and Four in Jasper

Drive up the Banff - Jasper highway and and stop at the Columbia Icefields and take a bus ride up on to the glacier. Continue on to the city of Jasper and enjoy the wildlife along the way. Stop at the many scenic lookouts to enjoy the view. Spend the night in Jasper.

In the morning, head up the Marmot Mountain tram and hike to the top of the mountain. In the afternoon, join a whitewater adventure trip or enjoy a horseback ride in the mountains. Spend a night in Jasper and be sure to stop by the Jasper Park Lodge to see the wonderful resort.

Days Five and Six in Edmonton

Drive to Miette Hot Springs on your way to Edmonton and enjoy a soak in the sulphur hot springs pool. Continue on to Edmonton and spend the next two days at the West Edmonton Mall, including taking in the fabulous waterpark, indoor amusement park and great shopping.

Take a WestJet flight home. Total driving time for the whole trip is less than 10 hours and the trip can be done in 6 days!
