Kaanapali Beach Hotel

We returned to Kaanapali Beach Hotel (KBH) during whale season and had a wonderful time. It was very exciting to see huge humpback whales far off at the hotel beach and breath taking to watch them close up from a boat. We did trips on a Trilogy catamaran and a Maui Adventures super raft. Both were great.

As for the large sea turtles, nothing can compare to snorkelling with them right at the hotel beach near Black Rock. The fish are abundant and we saw morays, puffers, squid, cornetfish, parrotfish, and butterflyfish. The snorkeling at Black Rock was much better than at Olowalu Reef, where the catamaran took us.

KBH has a great location, good food, beautiful rooms, and excellent staff. They run complimentary activities such ukele lessons, garden tours, hula lessons, and Hawaiian crafts. The Ohana Fun Center will book tours for you at competitive prices and will provide information and advice.

Every evening there is live music and a short hula show. It is very pleasant to buy a light meal from the Tiki Grill, and watch this show. For a more upscale meal, the Tiki Terrace has everything from steak to fresh seafood, and a traditional Hawaiian meal. On Friday evenings, they have the halau, a fancy evening show.
