True Cuisine at the Atlantis Hotel

One of my best memories of Barbados was eating on the verandah at the old Atlantis Hotel restaurant overlooking the spectacular Bathsheba coastline. There was a definite feeling of old colonial spirit, even though the building was becoming a little creaky.

The hotel and restaurant have just been re-opened after extensive renovations, and all in our party, resident Bajans and seasoned visitors, visited last Monday with some trepidation, fearing that the old charm would have been lost.

Everything is new, but the spirit of the old hotel is definitely there, and we had a truly memorable lunch, overlooking the powerful swells of the Atlantic, and the indescribably beautiful and unspoiled eastern coastline.

The service was excellent, friendly and efficient, and the meal was one of those meals that I will be able to taste as part of my memories for years to come.

A wonderful crisp salad, and very generous portions of Roti (my goat was succulent and just the right degree of spicy) in a light but satisfying wrap.

Desserts were truly original and tropical. We had a deliciously light breadfruit cheesecake with raspberries and cherries.

The prices were very manageable ($35BDS—approx $18US) for the roti. I cannot think of a restaurant anywhere in the world that can match the ambience and quality of experience.
