WestJet Keeps Mom Sane!

My son Austin is an avid snowboarder but Manitoba terrain does not provide a lot of challenge. Austin saved his weekly allowance and gift money to save up for a trip to Kelowna and Big White to ski with his aunt and uncle.

Travelling alone, he quite comfortably flew via Calgary as he has done many times in the past. This time however, weather prevented the connecting flight from leaving Calgary and Austin was stranded at the Calgary airport.

We had agreed that he would call me once in Calgary to let me know all was okay. He is a mature, confident traveller so I wasn't worried about him on his own. As well, he's a bit of a practical joker, so when he said his connecting flight was cancelled, I didn't believe him.

Unfortunately though, I learned it was true and he would be stuck alone in Calgary for thie night.

An amazing WestJet Superagent Rachel treated Austin very well and handled me even better. At 11:30 at night, I still had little sense of what would happen for the night with Austin and the next available seat wasn't until 4:30 the next day.

Learning of Austin's age and my concern, she swung into action, advising me of every possibility and was able to move him to an early morning flight so he wouldn't miss another day of his long awaited vacation. She had hundreds of others to deal with that night as all flights were cancelled, but knowing of a mother's concern and inability to help her child miles away, Rachel understood.

Austin was very quickly sorted out and not out of her sight until alternate plans were made. I was very impressed by her communication skills and her calm demeanour.

Bravo Rachel, Bravo WestJet. Thank you!

Love Mom!
